About Us
History
Founded in June 2021 by Prof. Mohamed Masmoudi, SI2E Lab has evolved into a leading research laboratory in the fields of Microelectronics, Emeging Energies and Robotics. It is a part of the department of Electrical Engineering at the National Engineering School of Sfax,Tunisia where it serves as a hub for innovation and interdisciplinary research. It started in 2007 as a small research unit focusing on Microelectronics & Robotics, and was later officially recognized as a research laboratory under the code LR21ES14. Since 2021, it has expanded its research scope to include optimization of energy systems and intelligent controls and Innovative fuel cells/batteries for embedded systems.
Mission and vision
The mission of the laboratory is to develop cutting-edge solutions that contribute to technological innovation and sustainability. Serving as a center of excellence in research, it provides its members and partners with a high-level scientific environment to enhance their expertise in the development of innovative methods for intelligent gas detection, the design of CMOS-compatible MEMS sensors and the optimization of power consumption and enhancement of radio frequency performance in wireless sensor nodes. Moreover, it focus on the development of specialized vision architectures for mobile robotics, the transformation of biomass and solid and liquid waste into biofuels, along with their electrochemical conversion in fuel cells. Its vision is to actively contribute to scientific and technological progress, fostering collaboration with academic institutions, research centers, and industrial partners at both national and international levels.
Research team
The research team in the SI2E Lab consists of committed researchers, scientists, and specialists who collaborate to investigate the potential of four vertical and transversal structuring themes which are: Microtechnologies , Biofuel and bio-coal production processes ,Optimization of energy systems and intelligent controls and Innovative fuel cells/batteries for embedded systems. By partnering with educational and research institutions, leading laboratories, and industry experts at both national and international levels, the research teams work to develop globally recognized solutions that drive innovation and contribute to societal advancement.
